Dog medical insurance

Dog medical insurance is available and affordable

Dog medical insurance has been around for between 15 and 20 years but is now becoming popular and available. Just as in human health insurance, there are different levels of coverage and hundreds of dog medical insurance companies. Plans are based on species (cat, dog, bird, etc.), age and whether or not the pet has any pre-existing condition, and the animal’s life style (i.e. inside or outside cat).

Most dog medical insurance companies wait until the puppy reaches 6-8 weeks old before coverage begins, although some do not have a lower age limit. However when it comes to older dogs, most companies have a cut off age between 8 and 12 years. There is protection available for the older dog. If the dog is below the upper age limit when the policy is written then coverage does not stop when the cut off age is reached.
When it comes to pre-existing conditions some companies will provide coverage, if the dog is stable, after a six month waiting period. Other dog medical insurance companies will refuse all coverage to an animal with a pre-existing condition or terminal illness.

The current animal deductible is around $100.00. The basic policy monthly payment is about $15.00. If you want extra coverage (i.e. a cancer rider) it will cost extra, but it is available. Most of the dog medical insurance companies provide coverage in the U.S. and Canada, such as www.petshealthgroup.com. There are several U.K. companies listed also
