Which is the best dog food for your pet, premium, super premium or economy

Many people think that "dog food is dog food," the cheap stuff at discount stores is just as healthy as the op of the line pet specialty store. However, research has shown that the cheap economy brands are actually more costly than the premium and super premium brands, which are truly the best dog food in terms of nutrients and cost.

The availability and origin of nutrients are what determine the quality of your pet’s diet. In one test it took five times as much of the economy brands to match the nutrition of super premium. The super premium dog food advises an average of 1 ¾ cups a day for a 40 lb. dog. Premium says 3 ¼ cups a day and economy 6 cups a day, so in the long run the best dog food is the super premium.

As to price it costs 7 cents a day more to feed your pet the economy brand that the super premium does. For a large breed like the Irish Wolfhound you would have to feed 12 cups a day of the cheap dog food. However only 4 ¾ cups of the super premium which while only two cents cheaper a day is still the best dog food choice.

Super premium dog foods are more easily digested so more nutrients are absorbed and less waste is excreted. Again making the high end dog food cheaper to use than the economy brand. To find the best dog food on line check out pet specialty stores or their on line outlets, such as Pets Mart.com and Petco.com.
